GD240 owner
Hello everybody!
Having just discovered this forum, I´m looking forward to talking to all of you, hopefully learning a lot about the great G-wagon and giving some insight back to the community where possible.
I am currently stationed with a reconnaissance unit in Denmark and my experince with the g-wagon (GD240, GD270, GD280, some armoured as well) is based entirely on its military application.
I own a 1985 GD240.
It´s in overall pretty good condition. Fitted with VHF antennae, retrans boxes and speakers for comms.
I´m currently working on getting new rear springs and shocks. I have ordered some Monroe Adventure shocks and am currently looking for some springs to replace the OE springs currently on the car.
I need to take care of a little rust as well but it´s not a whole lot.
The car runs great as it has been cared for by trained military mechanics since 1987.
I have ordered new BF Goodrich A/T 235/70R16 tires with M/S rating. The fitted terrain tyres are pretty dangerous in snow and on ice.
Please ask me anything you want about the car and its use if you like!
Take care!
Welcome!
Nice wolf
I love military spec trucks, G's especially.
Hi and welcome.
That's a nice G Wolf you have.
I was wondering how hard the Danish army use their G Wagons and how well they are serviced. There are a few ex- Danish army GD240 Wolfs for sale in the UK for between £5500 and £7000 GBP, how does that compare with the price in Denmark ?
Same in the UK military, vehicles have (well, should have...) a first parade, last parade etc.
checking POL, tyres etc.
Being ex REME we had to do this... no excuse really LOL!
Nothing as glamerous as serving... well, I suppose it was... i was REME (TA), so a reservist. came out a good 15 years ago. was in for 7. Was based here in Swindon, and also moved around to Salisbury and Devizes. Attached to another regt as well for a period.
loved it, VM class1. As I was (and still am) into Landrovers, it was a match made in heaven!
Hi DK
Welcome to the forum and club. Some great pics of the G/Wolf in military 'clothing' as it were, many thanks for both posting and for your service. Looking forward to some sexy pic's with twin mounted 50's, or even 20mm cannons? One option that I would love, but alas UK rules don't allow it.
Once again welcome

Welcome to the forum, your vehicle being Military spec; has it the Webasto heater fitted? And is fitting a standard spec?
Here´s my 240 next to a 270 which I´ll be driving across Denmark today :)
Do the 270 soft tops ever come up for sale and how much are they.
I think the 270 G is only available in LWB (long wheel base) is that correct ?
There was a SWB G270 released, Fred used to own one. Don't know if the soft top was available
killing might be a better word
Heck!
Many thanks DKR, for the post - now that is what I want to go Bunny hunting with my G!!!! We have some very aggressive rabbits here in the UK and this would be perfect. Nothing says being fair as using what was an anti aircraft round against a rabbit! LOL
Here is an example...

Hi DK
I recently purchased a fuel strainer which should fit within the filler neck of my 463 DT . I thought it would be a case of removing the filler cap and simply sliding it in, but the inturned lip for securing the cap makes the aperture to small. Gav (the clubs parts wizard) has confirmed the neck fitted to a civilian 463 is the same part as fitted to the Mil spec, so it should fit.
I believe they were fitted on the 270 mil spec and wondering if you would be so kind as to have a look at yours to see if its fitted to your model.
Thanks
Howard
Thanks for your quick response. It would appear from the pictures its not fitted with the strainer. Do you have any other 463 mil spec trucks such as the G280 or G300 on camp which it could be fitted to?
I appreciate your time
Howard
Interesting. I noticed the Canadian G wagens have the same filler but i haven't managed to find a close up.
The configuration looks similar to the 461 mil spec, which has the banana shaped filter (see photo) but I cant see the locking ring which holds the filter in position.
It is difficult to tell from the picture if the 280 has a strainer. If you get the opportunity I would be grateful if you could take a picture with the cap off and even better if you could find the chassis number which will be under the bonnet on the vin plate or stamped on the chassis behind the near side front wheel.
Thanks again, I appreciate your time.
Those old shocks were rusted in there tighter 'n a schoolgirl's cooch!

We are a mixed bunch on this site and some people might take offence at this, I did !
Thanks a lot :)
They do get used pretty hard. Imagine being fired upon while stationary with cold engines. In a situation like that you wouldn´t be thinking about engine health that´s for damn sure.
That being said, they are extremely well serviced. I can tell you that every time a Danish soldier uses a car (any car) he must complete a thorough check of the car. Checking oil, fluids, tire pressure, steering column, batteries, breaks and so on. The car is washed very thoroughly before this check.
That´s the daily check.
Once a month an even more thorough check is performed where everything else is taken care of. I can upload a translation of what is done at the different checks when I get the time.
Having repairs done on the cars while in military service is very efficient. Is anything is wrong with the vehicle, it is grounded and not allowed to be driven again until fixed.
With regards to price I would say they sound quite similar. A little higher in the UK perhaps. I bought mine for about £4300. A fully restored version will run you about £6-7000 here in Denmark as well.
Feel free to inquire further :)
