Welcome
The GWOA was formed over ten years ago and currently has well over 400 members. Our members range from hard core off roaders, occasional off roaders, and owners who wouldn’t dream of getting their prize possession knee high in mud. Regardless, all are welcome in the GWOA. What all G Wagen owners share is the knowledge they drive the finest of vehicles, on or off road.
A few words from the founder of the GWOA, Bill Jones.
After writing for most of the off road magazines in the 1980s and into the90s, I followed the Munich to Marrakesh Rally at the end of 1991 in order to write a report for 4x4 Magazine.We took an old Series III Land Rover which turned out to be the oldest car on the event...

GWOA News: The 2008 AGM at Chirk Castle

The 2008 AGM at Chirk Castle was a great success. I would like to thank Richard Wells, our Welsh representative for all the hard work he put in to make the event memorable. To go to the extent of arranging sunshine and a steam engine timed to our arrival at the coffee stop is above and beyond the call of duty. Could I also thank all those members who turned up for one or both of those days. It is always a pleasure to put a faces to voices on the telephone or e-mail correspondents. Could I also thank those committee members and directors who have served the club in the past for their efforts, and welcome the new members of the team. Good luck to you all.
The full minutes will be published with the December newsletter, and also posted on the members section of the website in due course.

GWOA News: Scottish event week end 05/06 Of april 2008

IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND THIS EVENT WE NEED TO KNOW BY SATURDAY 22nd MARCH.
 
We will have our Scottish Run on the Weekend 05/06 of April 2008 , based in Dunkeld in Perthshire , Scotland .
Dunkeld is about 1.5 hours North of Edinburgh.
They are a lots of B&B s , hotels and a few camp sites.
There are lots of activities that can be enjoyed locally, including fishing, hillwalking, birdwatching, quads etc etc
Parents and children could enjoy a lovely weekend there or even a full week's holiday. Early Booking Advised for accomodation .

GWOA News: "web surf-out"

I would like to sincerely applogise to all members for my poor or non-service. Some of you may have noticed that I have been below the radar line past few months and that it was sudden dissaperence.
Dispite having access to a computer a few months after the last annual general meeting, that unit, had caused problems in so far as the supplier exchanging the unit. This took a few weeks to sort out.
My next problem has been and still is an issue with my previous internet server. In essence, my problem has been that I have not enjoyed trouble-free service from this server. Despite the number of phone calls, time and effort spent in trying to sort out my problem with the server they have not been able to resolve my issue. Even after my patients ran out with them, I was given a lot of grief trying to cancell the service and migrate to another server!
Any how, I am up and signed to another server and hope I can be service to you all. It will take me a few weeks to catch up with those of you I had left stranded. I am sorry to say that I may not be able to address all whom, who contacted me due to the fact that some a contact information will have been lost with my previous server. Please address your queries again, I will try and answer you in return.
I have heard some say that they have not heard of problems with my ex-server, however, based on my experience, I would suggest any subscribers to steer clear of Tiscali; this is my PERSONAL opinion.
I hope can redeem myself in time to come, hence, the club.

Lake Placid, New York - There it was: a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a G 320 CDI no less. This was the Mercedes product that I though I would never have the opportunity to drive. Let me tell you that I was first in line on the morning of the test drives to make sure that I was going to get the chance to put it through its paces. This thing, to put it nicely, has been around basically unchanged since 1979. Usually, this is automotive suicide. In the case of the Geländewagen, it could never be any other way. Consider the G-Class the German Hummer and for a Hummer enthusiast, nothing should ever be changed. Same goes for a G lover.

SUBSTANTIALLY UNCHANGED: A 2006 G-class 270 CDI.
Stuttgart, Germany - Buying a new car inevitably means that after a few years it will look old, especially if the maker has replaced it with a newer model.
A Mercedes-Benz G-Class off-roader, however, is one way of avoiding this trap; it hasn't changed its basic box-shape substantially from the first model introduced 27
years ago.
Germany technical testing authority Dekra however warns that you need to watch certain points if you intend buying a used Mercedes G-Class.

Driving to Lhasa

Well, as you may already know the Driving to Lhasa project is about to leave Norway, date set is 1st January, headed into central Europe, maybe south France, then when the timing is right, make our move east toward the Turugart pass and China... very exciting!

The 2006 GWOA AGM

The 2006 AGM is fast approaching and it looks like its going to be a good one. For the first time, the AGM will be a multi-day event aimed at the whole family. The committee has been hard at work with the help of a small group of GWOA members to ensure that this will be one to remember.
The AGM will be held on the 5th & 6th August, and is FREE for all GWOA Members.

Out With the Old...

Due to work commitments, David Watkins has asked to stand down form the position of club Chairman. Tim Carnell after ten years of producing the magazine felt it was time for a change. The committee agreed with many club members, to give both David and Tim something in recognition for all the hard work they have done over the years for the club. A number of committee members decided to give a watch from the Mercedes Benz collection. I would like again on behalf of all the members to thank both David and Tim for the exemplary service they have given to the club over the years and look forward to their input in years to come.
